I just finished reading George Orwell‘s “Animal Farm,” and I have to say, it was quite a journey. At first, I thought I was diving into a children’s book with all the talking animals and farmyard adventures. But a few pages in, I realized this was much more than just a story about animals.
The book starts with the animals of Manor Farm, who are tired of being mistreated by Mr. Jones, their human owner. They dream of a better life where they are free and equal. The animals, led by the smart pigs, overthrow Mr. Jones. The beginning feels light and fun, with slogans like:
“All animals are equal.”
But soon, things take a dark turn. The pigs start to take control, making rules that benefit themselves and slowly acting just like the humans they replaced. One of the pigs, Napoleon, becomes a dictator. The commandments the animals once believed in are twisted, like when:
“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”
I was struck by how quickly the pigs changed. They start making deals with humans and exploiting the other animals.
The book isn’t just about farm animals. It’s a clever way of talking about people, power, and politics. Each animal represents different types of people and leaders. The pigs, especially Napoleon, symbolize dictators who use lies and force to control others.
Reading “Animal Farm” made me think about how power can corrupt and how important it is to stay aware and question those in charge. Orwell used the story to show how easily freedom can be lost and how manipulation works.
In short, “Animal Farm” starts as a simple tale but turns into a powerful lesson about society and human nature. It’s an easy read, but it has deep meanings that stay with you long after you finish.
