So… I recently ran all my Letterboxd film ratings through AI. Like, all 1,451 of them. Why? I just got curious. I wanted to know what my movie choices really say about me.

For this little experiment, I used Genspark AI. I just gave my profile URL and asked it to go through the profile and generate a presentation based on the ratings.

Why I Even Used AI for This

No specific reason. I thought, why not ? I was trying out different use cases for AI and thought of analyzing my own habits through AI.

What the AI Actually Showed Me

Quick Stats:

  • Total films: 1,451 (as of July 24 2025)
  • Average rating: 2.7 stars
  • Most common rating: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… (thatโ€™s about 1 in every 3 films)

Rating Breakdown:

RatingFilms%
โ˜…30521%
โ˜…โ˜…30521%
โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…47533%
โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…27019%
โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…967%

So yeah, I use the whole scale, but I clearly live in that 2 to 4-star zone. Basically, I try to be fair. If a movie does its job, I acknowledge it even if itโ€™s not perfect. And if it really blows me away, then yeah, it gets the five.

My Five-Star Club (Only 7% Made It)

This is where I get picky. Out of all 1,451 films, only 96 got a perfect score. Which honestly makes the ones that did stand out even more.

Some top picks:

What do they have in common? Boldness. Emotion. And something fresh. I donโ€™t care about genre or budget, if a film feels honest and ambitious, Iโ€™m in.

My Genre + Regional Taste

In my 5-star films, the top genres were:

Drama, Thriller, Action, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Adventure, Horror, Comedy

But overall:

  • Drama: 28%
  • Comedy: 22%
  • Action/Thriller: 18%
  • Animation: 8%

Regional split:

  • Indian cinema: 65%
  • International: 35%

Mostly Malayalam and Tamil on the Indian side. On the international side, itโ€™s a mix of A24 stuff, big Hollywood titles, and the occasional quiet indie.

Basically, I love films that feel local or completely out there. Either rooted in something real or pushing boundaries.

What Kind of Critic Am I?

I didnโ€™t even think of myself as a “critic” until I saw the data. But yeah, turns out I rate consistently, usually around 3 stars. I log around 5 to 7 films a week. And Iโ€™m not quick to overhype.

Only 7% of my ratings hit 5 stars, so I guess Iโ€™ve got standards. But Iโ€™m not a hater either. I just want depth. Or soul. Or something.

Final Thoughts

Honestly? This was fun. Weirdly personal too. Watching AI lay out my movie habits was like reading a diary I didnโ€™t realize Iโ€™d been keeping.

And if youโ€™re the kind of person whoโ€™s been logging films for years on Letterboxd (or even months), I seriously recommend doing something like this.
